About Independent Publishing Network
The Independent Publishing Network is a membership network for self-publishing authors in the UK and Ireland. Members’ books are published under our imprint, with a UK ISBN and registration on the Nielsen Book Database, so that bookshops, libraries and retailers can find them.
We’ve been doing this since October 2012, and members have published more than 10,000 books: novels, memoirs, poetry, local history, cookbooks, academic titles and children’s books.
WHAT WE DO
Membership includes an ISBN for your book, a barcode image if it’s being printed, and registration on the Nielsen Book Database. We also supply self-adhesive barcode labels and ONIX metadata files. Membership is a single payment with nothing to renew, and your number and images are emailed to you as soon as you join.
We don’t print, edit, design, market, hold stock, take orders or distribute books. Unless you appoint a distributor, orders come to you, and you fulfil them. That’s normal for self-publishing, and our guide to self-publishing explains how it works in practice.
“Independent Publishing Network” is listed as the publisher of record for your title and can’t be changed; it’s an administrative label. Copyright and all rights and proceeds in your work remain entirely with you.

WHO WE ARE
The Independent Publishing Network is operated by International Barcodes Limited in partnership with Independent Publishing Network Ltd, a UK-registered company. International Barcodes is based in New Zealand and is an authorised member of the International Barcode Network; the technical side of generating and delivering barcodes is handled there. The imprint is UK, the ISBNs are UK, and the titles are registered with Nielsen in the UK.
